The Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in a working visit to the University of Osijek

On 1 July 2022, Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, paid a working visit to Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. On that occasion he was hosted by Prof. Dr. Vlado Guberac, Rector, and Prof. Dr. Drago Šubarić, Vice-Rector, as well as by representatives of students and the Student Centre in Osijek.

The Prime Minister visited the new Student Dormitory Pavilion built on the University Campus. During a tour through the modernly equipped dormitory pavilion, which has been in use since the beginning of the summer semester of this academic year, the Rector Prof. Dr. Vlado Guberac informed the Prime Minister about the investments into the largest and most modern student dormitory in the Republic of Croatia. He also thanked the Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and the Croatian Government for supporting this important infrastructural project that will greatly contribute to improvement of the student standard at the University of Osijek. “Opening ceremony of the new Student Pavilion was supposed to be organised at the beginning of the summer semester. Due to objective circumstances, that ceremony could not be held, but the new Student Pavilion has been open for students by providing 796 beds in 404 rooms, ten of which are reserved for people with disabilities. There are also reading rooms, kitchenettes, fitness hall, laundry rooms, and parking lots for 147 cars and 600 bicycles”, said the rector and continued with elaboration of new plans for the University Campus development.

“This is the sixth year of the Slavonia Project implementation that aims to support revitalisation of Slavonia, its demographic recovery, economic growth, investments in infrastructure, agriculture and education”, said the Prime Minister and emphasised: “We will finally revive this part of Croatia that was neglected for many years, because Slavonia deserves better and more”.
